Captain Zaron and the Trials of Doom

Captain Zaron and the Trials of Doom is new and easier version of previously posted Captain Zaron point and click type adventure game developed by Peter Lemiszki. He sent this email to us: "I am the creator of Captain Zaron and the Trials of Doom. Many players on EG24 have emailed me asking me to make the game a bit easier in some places. I have created a new version and would greatly appreciate it if you could swap it out for the benefit or your visitors." Thanks to Peter for making new and easier version for us. I believe you will like it. Good luck and have fun!

Note: Please be patient while loading the game, because its large size!

Forgot just how HUGE the game is.

  9. FOR ALL REPLAYERS:

As I have to play twice (lost data, even after saving..!), I made a summary in the spirit of EGDAWT:

--> only till sword fight workout & with some unfinished notes (& hopefully no errors...)!

    Preliminary notes:
    - get used with navigation & how to use items (a bit annoying, IMHO)
    - Zaron's hair turns BLUE, if you can use an item on himself...
    - if you want, choose ZIP MODUS on: quicker walk thru game
    - read dialogues attentively for hints / items
    - SAVE GAME (for not to loose game data again, I directly played on http://www.studiomeristem.com/games/zaron/ & didn't clear cache & cookies...!)
    - use Ctrl+F to find particular things in this summary

  19. Some important FAQ from designer's site:
Q: Will clearing my browser cache erase my saved game?
A: It depends. Your game is saved as an .sol file, which some browsers erase and others do not. To find your game file, run a search for "zarongame.sol" on your system. You can copy the file into a new location before clearing your browser cache, and then simply move it back.

Q: What about running my antivirus software?
A: See above. Review your antivirus scan results and do not delete "zarongame.sol" from your computer.

  21. Last post from older version comments:

    beavinator 11/24/11 6:37 AM

    Info on the new version:

Whether you choose "normal" or "easy" swordfighting, Zaron can now take three hits before dying. "Easy" mode roughly doubles the amount of time between your opponent's wind-up and strike. And if you fail more than 20 times, you will be given the option to skip the battle.

  35. O.K So I made it to the guards again and....
    No option for easy mode!!!!
I just can take 3 hits till I die...
I'll try for a little while but I think I'm hopeless

Can somebody send a thirteen year old over???

I WISH I HAD A MACHINE GUN TO TAKE CARE OF THOSE GUARDS

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hear you al sal. An arms deal or two would be welcome.

On the last string, someone suggested bombarding the CPU by running various programs. It slows down the PC which gave them a little more time to react in the fight - may be worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would like to bombard the castle!!!
I am trying that too but doesn't seem to help Momma
I think I'll quit for a second time at the exact same spot
I really don't know why the game-maker bothered making a second version if he doesn't offer an option to skip the swordfighting

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think the game maker had a very different demographic in mind.

As much as I loved the game, it was probably aiming for the adolescent market. Unlike me, most of them don't have the reflexes of a narcoleptic brontosaurus.

Pity as those two are so very close to the end - there is only the 'magic' fight after that. That one I could do.

--- I think poor Al Sal failed more than 20 times so I wouldn't bet the mortgage on being saved.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not a hell am I fighting! I know my limitations :)
I finished last time so I've no great motivation to do it again. I'm just enjoying your game in a weird vicarious way.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ok, I'll skip this. I am not up to any more swordfighting. Too bad, the old game was wonderful otherwise.

    ReplyDelete

  50. Well can't seem to figure out what spell works for the arrows and the wind
Maybe I have to transform to that heavy gut but I am too bored to go back and change the statues

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes Al Sal
The fetch spell on the shield

  54. For the time being I'll get some sleep..
Thanks for keeping me company in these difficult moments Momma and Premiere
    Good night
(hope it saves the data 'cause there won't be a third time for me)

    ReplyDelete
  55. al sal,
    hope you read this...
to be sure, not to loose data:
put your PC only in sleep mode, without closing browser!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hey al sal. I too was somewhat annoyed that the swordfighting still seemed difficult even on easy mode. I was expecting to have to go through it 20 times so I could just skip it, but after 5 or 6 I actually started to get the hang of it and I managed to do it.
As to your other question, "zip mode" skips the animation of Zaron walking each time you move from one screen to another, making it much faster to move through the game.

    ReplyDelete
  57. One day I'll get to play this game, perhaps?.....

For a start, it's on the gameso site. I can't use that site AT ALL because it crashes my mobile broadband, so I found it on the home site, thank goodness [as I have to do with ALL gameso-hosted games].

Then I spent two hours tearing up my house for my notes and map made during my last attempt, haha. I failed.

Then I'd forgotten how to get past that guard in the dungeon. I know I have to get the fetch spell ready before I go right to his screen, but have no idea what to use it on, yet I "got it" straight away last time. [I blame today's migraine.]

Lastly, looking for how to get past him without seeing too many hints [thank you, premiere, you seem to have covered just about everything - =) - except that?] I see that there is still fighting, whichever option we choose. I'm totallly inept at anything like that, so I closed the game, sadly.

As nobody answered my query in the last posting of this game about whether it happened to anyone else, I'm not risking playing all that way again, only to have the game crash on me at the green liquid part.

Thank you, Peter, for trying, but "Skip the fight" would have been the only way for me to persevere and possibly complete this.
    Shame. I love this game.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, Rookwings,
as the game's size is huge & the game itself very complex, the summary I made (till sword fight workout) is also like that... but if you go thru it attentively, you can read under SPELLS:
    FETCH
    ==> from FISH
    ...
    - use on
--> switch in waterfall cave (water in well disappears)
    --> dungeon key
    --> carpet in dungeon
    :-)
(Psst, never forget my tendency to perfectionism, LOL!)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am Utterly happy and proud to announce...

(Me still not in the fighting mood, only if there will be no new games to play...)

    ReplyDelete
  61. That'll teach me, premiere.
I skimmed lightly over that because I don't want to see anything about the other spells [aforementioned migraine didn't help, haha].
My game kept crashing, in the first game, while I was attempting to get the second one!

I should have known the reigning queen of walkthroughs hadn't let me down. =D
It's just a pity my virtual fighting skills have.
Just hand me a crossbow, or a bucket of poison, and it'd be a different story ;)

  65. mindblogger,
you have my deepest sympathy - I know, what you're going thru!
A lot of luck is included - I always had problems waiting, till bar turns green again, before I made the next flourish...
As this is a computer game, the workout such as the fights dead certainly HAVE their patterns, but plz don't ask me to tell them to you...
for that, I would have to have an assistant writing down the pattern, but me alone, I can't fight & write at the same time...

Go right and upstairs to the right bedroom
Free the bird and he will take jade statues to the fool’s altar for you
Go into the other bedroom and take the POTTED PLANT
Go downstairs and left to the gears room
Use bloom on the plant to stop the gears and end the fire
Search around the castle to find the hint for the door code (I can’t remember where, but I think it was next to a storage room across the fire)
    Open the silver doors
    Beat the wizard

  67. For people looking to try the easier swordfights:

You have to choose "Easy" swordfighting in the Options Menu. If you save, quit, and restart your game, it will revert to the default "Normal" swordfighting, and you will need to go back to the Options Menu and choose "Easy" again. (I don't see the Options Menu mentioned in this topic, so maybe it will help someone.)

I am old. With time and practice, my reflexes get worse (due to hand cramping) not better. I was just barely able to beat this game on the Easy swordfighting mode.

  68. Thankyou for your sympathy Premiere. If only Unknown had posted 24 hours earlier lol. For anyone attempting the game again note Unknowns comment about selecting the Easy swordfighting from the options menu. Thankfully I have my diploma now, onto the fight.

  69. Best score till now in double fight (easy mode):
1/2 - 3/3 (R.I.P.) - 1/2, waiting for the skip option while fighting my keyboard to pieces, LOL!

Worst thing in sword fights for me was, that you must wait, till your energy is loaded again (bar's green again)...

  77. Can anyone help me figure out how to get the freeze and bloom spells? I got stuck and read through the hints people posted, but it seems like you need one in order to get the other. I can't get the code for the box because I don't have freeze to get to the witches house. I also need freeze to get bloom from the Dryad. Any help would be appreciated!
