    ReplyDelete
  72. LNS-

Thank you! That was it! Trying to catch up now...

    ReplyDelete
  73. LNS do you mean horizontal? The "second one" is horizontal, and there is only one that is vertical, so not sure where the 2nd would be.

  77. The Greek clue is correct but a little tricky. It is not simply the numerical order of the letters in the modern Greek alphabet. Greek letters are used as numerals in a system where the first nine letters are 1-9, the next nine letters are 10-90, and the last nine letters are 100-900. The only problem is that the modern Greek alphabet has only 24 letters, so three obsolete letters from older Greek are used for the extra three numerals. The obsolete letter digamma is the numeral six, and thereby zeta is in fact seven as a numeral, even though it is the sixth letter in the alphabet. (qoppa is 90, and sampi is 900)

  79. We all know that, at this stage of clue design, we will never
catch Selfdefiant out. Even google was hard pressed to
find that delta was at some stage in its life,
    the number Four!

Anyway thanks Cafe+Juegos for hrlping us through our day. xxx

  86. the greek alphabet is:
    Α,Β,Γ,Δ,Ε,Ζ,Η,Θ,Ι,Κ,Λ,Μ,Ν,Ξ,Ο,Π,Ρ,Σ,Τ,Υ,Φ,Χ,Ψ,Ω
So, Z is normally the 6th letter of our alphabet...

    ReplyDelete
  87. you don't want to know anything else about my country under these secumstances...

    ReplyDelete
  88. @doris - please see my earlier comment. The Greek clue has to do with the old system of Greek numerals, so the zeta in the clue is the number seven, not a letter at all. The number six is represented by the obsolete letter digamma in this system. It is similar to the way the Romans used to use letters for numbers: V = 5, C = 100, etc.
