  9. And also need help on the colours. Also haven't used my lightbulb or my pin. This is definitely not my day...

  10. I have 2 triangles, one light bulb, a telescope (used), a lamp full of oil, and a pin. Now I'm stuck. How do I get light in the dark room?

  12. Black,
    The colors match those in the kitchen but the biggest is first.

    So, first color is yellow.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks, just! I was trying them forwards rather than backwards. Will plug those in now and see how I fare :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. ... oh. That just gave me another chunk of mirror. I still don't know where to put those...

    Interestingly, I'm listening to a YouTube mix of piano covers, and a cover of Justin Timberlake's 'Mirrors' just came up. Talk about timing!!!

  15. idk what the word is either.
    You need matches for lamp, then use it first left arrow in lighthouse

    ReplyDelete
  16. @PheatherXS: Light lantern with matches after fuelling it and then you get into the room on the left on the ground floor of the lighthouse (the one you entered with the black key). In that room, you'll be faced with the anagram box, which continues to elude me...

  17. Still no joy on the word front, and I've tried loads of things! SD, can't I just pick the lock of that chest with the pin I haven't used yet? Pretty please? xD

  27. @s-t: Yeah, Nini is a serious whiz. Most of the time, she's reached somewhere crazy or already finished a game while types like me are still scratching our heads! But you are definitely up there with her in the big league... I am still a small and rather useless player ;D

  38. WALKTHROUGH for anyone who needs one (since I'm feeling prosaic!):

    Part 1:

    You have ended up becoming a member of some dubious secret society, and have had to look for its HQs every time there is a meeting. They have been relocating constantly to increasingly random locations, which is a quirk you find extremely inconvenient. However, you continue to attend meetings for the sake of being able to look cool and maintain an air of mystery in front of your non-member friends.

    In this particular instance, you need to find the headquarters in a random lighthouse. You start off facing the lighthouse itself, and try its door (which, incidentally, has a BLACK KEYHOLE), but of course it's locked (couldn't be that easy!). Unfazed, you head right and see a house. You try that door, but it's also locked, and this time the keyhole is GOLD. Confused as to how to proceed, you draw your attention to the PILE OF STRAW in front of one of its windows. Your sixth sense tells you there is something under it if only you could shift it. So you head left twice looking for an appropriate tool, and lo and behold, you see a PITCHFORK poking out from a cluster of rocks. You grab it, head right twice to get back to the pile of straw, and poke around in it for a bit... and what should emerge but a BLACK KEY! You immediately head left once and unlock the lighthouse door.

    Inside the lighthouse, you see a WHEEL and a SLOT FOR ANOTHER WHEEL. You also see a BOX with a curious 4-SHAPE CODE LOCK. Figuring that you're bound to find both the missing wheel and a clue for the shape code somewhere or other, you decide to head left. Unfortunately, to your left is a DARK ROOM where you can't see anything! So you head back out and make a mental note to revisit it later when you have a source of light. The only other way to go is up the stairs, so that's where you go.

    One flight of stairs up, you see some flowers on the windowsill... and a mysterious PIECE OF MIRROR nestled between them. You pick it up, figuring it could come in useful later, and continue your journey up the stairs.

    On the second floor, you spot a door to your right and head through it. It is bare except for a stone table, a window and some coat hooks. A yellow coat hangs on one of the hooks. You check its pockets and find... A GOLD KEY. "Excellent!", you exclaim. "I can now open the strange house next door without resorting to breaking and entering!"

    Excited though you are to enter the new territory of the gold keyed house, you decide to check out the rest of the room beforehand. A quick scan tells you that you can SEE FAR through this particular window. Your keen eye also catches an inscription of Roman numerals on the stone table: MMCDXVII. You make a mental note to look those numbers up later, and head out of the room and back to the stairs. You go up one last flight of stairs and find that the topmost room is bare... for now.

    Now super-keen to make use of your newly-acquired gold key, you head back down to the ground floor and out of the lighthouse. You head right to the other house and open the door.

    Inside, you find a LIVING ROOM with a COMFY SOFA, a TABLE, and a BOOKSHELF. You head to the bookshelf first, sure that it will hold some useful information. While browsing, you come across a STRANGE BOOK WITH PICTURES OF PIZZAS. Being used to these games and their quirky ways, you make a mental note of the number of pizzas depicted (4 and 3/4). You also find a blue PACK OF MATCHES nestled sneakily within the pages of the book, which you swiftly pocket. You then turn your attention to the table, on which you find a BOX with a 4-COLOUR CODE LOCK. Having no idea how to solve that lock, you leave it for now. Next to the box, you see a purple book which turns out to have a very useful BREAKDOWN OF ROMAN NUMERALS. Using that, you quickly work out that (spoiler!):

    MM = 1000+ 1000 = 2000
    CD = 500 - 100 = 400
    X = 10
    VII = 7

    So MMCDXVII = 2417. You remember this number for future use.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Part 2:

    You then head to the BATHROOM on your right, and find a pretty PICTURE OF A SUNFLOWER on the wall with an inscription saying "ORTSA". Having found many headquarters before this one, you immediately figure that this must be an anagram, and cast your mind around for a suitable word using those letters. "Aha!" you think after a few minutes of deliberation. "It's ASTRO!". You make a mental note of this word for future use.

    You then take a closer look at the LITTLE BROWN CUPBOARD and see that it has a 4-DIGIT CODE LOCK. You decide to try your luck with the Roman numeral code here, so key in 2417, and... success! The cupboard opens, and is empty except for a PIN, which you pocket.

    You head back out to the living room and then forward through the other door, which leads to the KITCHEN. On the counter, your eye is caught by a display of FOUR COLOURED JARS OF VARIOUS SIZES next to the COFFEE MACHINE WITHOUT COFFEE. "Hmm... I wonder if these have anything to do with the colour box in the living room," you wonder. You make a note of the colours of the jars in descending order of their size: YELLOW, RED, BLUE, GREEN. You then check the fridge and then oven for useful items... the fridge yields nothing of interest, but for some bizarre reason, you find a LIGHT BULB in the oven. Figuring it could come in useful, you pocket it.

    You then check the CUPBOARD underneath the kitchen counter. Most of them are empty, but the FOURTH CUPBOARD FROM THE LEFT has a RED CAN OF OIL in it. You make a mental note of that in case you end up needing any fuel at any point in time.

    Having scanned the whole kitchen, you head right to the BEDROOM, where you see a MASSIVE ANCHOR hanging from the ceiling. Hoping it doesn't fall on your head and cut short your adventure (and life) prematurely, you proceed to investigate the rest of the room. You find nothing of interest except for a GREEN BOX on the right-hand bedside table. Looking closely at the box, you see that it requires a 3-DIGIT CODE, and that there is a picture of a pizza next to the space for the code. "Aha!" you think, putting two and two together. "I knew that number of pizzas would come in handy!" You swiftly convert 4 and 3/4 to decimals (4.75) and triumphantly plug in 475. The box clicks open to reveal a YELLOW TELESCOPE, which you pocket. Remembering the window in the lighthouse through which you could see far, you make a mental note to try out the telescope there later.

    You then head left and back to return to the living room. Remembering that you now have the information needed to open the colour box, you quickly punch in YRBG. The box opens and you pick up PIECE OF MIRROR #2. You then head out of the house, left, and back into the lighthouse. You head up two flights of stairs and into the room on your right, and try your newly-acquired telescope out on the window there. In the distance, you can make out a SAILBOAT with a 4-SHAPE CODE on its sail. You immediately recognise the shapes from those on the 4-SHAPE BOX downstairs, and so you commit the code to memory and head back downstairs to punch it into the box.

    (Note: the shapes look something like: white arc on top, O with a / line in the middle, white arc on the bottom, O with a \ line in the middle. Hope that's a good enough explanation!)

    You carefully punch your code into the box and it opens to reveal a LANTERN amidst a bunch of straw. You notice that the lantern has no fuel, and so you quickly nip back to the kitchen in the other building and fill it with fuel from there. You then light your newly-fueled lantern with the matches. It then dawns upon you that you now have a source of light, and hence can visit the previously off-limits DARK ROOM in the lighthouse! Excited to discover what it holds, you run back to the lighthouse and head inside and then left.

  40. Part 3:

    Disappointingly, the much-fabled dark room holds nothing but TWO CUPBOARDS and a CHEST. "Pah!" you scoff, disappointed at the reward you've got for all your effort. "Ah well... no matter," you sigh. You decide to check the cupboards, which, to add to your disappointment, turn out to be largely empty, and full of cobwebs to good... though you do find PIECE OF MIRROR #3 in a corner of the RIGHT-HAND CUPBOARD. Having made short work of the two cupboards, you turn to the chest, and realise that it has an ANAGRAM LOCK! Recalling your clever unscrambling of 'ORSTA' to give 'ASTRO' in the bathroom of the other house, you type 'ASTRO' into the chest, and it works! The chest opens, and you pick up a LARGE WHEEL.

    "Hmm," you think. "There's a wheel missing in the entrance mechanism!". So you head right and set the wheel/gear into the spot below the wheel already fixed onto the column. You attempt to try out your new mechanism, but apparently the second gear isn't fixed properly and needs a clip. You try using the PIN you picked up earlier, and success! - the gears turn. Sure that the turning gears will yield something interesting on the hitherto bare TOP FLOOR, you head upstairs, and find a STRANGE CONTRAPTION awaiting you. You observe that it is missing a lightbulb, so you slot in the one from your inventory. You then observe that it is also missing mirrors, so you slot in the three pieces of mirror you picked up. You then pull the lever, and a ladder comes down from the ceiling. You climb up the ladder and emerge onto the terrace, where you are greeted a stone table and chairs, a laptop, a comfortable-looking red sofa, and a glass of orange juice. "Ahh," you think. "Now this is the life!" You sit down at the sofa and await the arrival of the other members of your society. An annoying thought occurs to you... now that you've revealed the location of the HQ, the rest of the gang won't have much work to do in terms of finding it... but then again, if you hadn't been first, you wouldn't have had first dibs on the sofa and the orange juice. Smirking at the thought, you sit back, sip your juice, and enjoy the fruits of your labour :D

  49. @marita: You need to light the lantern with the matches after filling it... then you should get light in the room.

    Thanks for enjoying the walkthrough!!! Also spotted a typo in Part 3... "to boot", not "to good". Gah. Fast typing at silly hours of the morning! xD

  59. there is a little glitch: when you combine the filled lantern with the matches in your inventory there is no feedback that the lantern is lit now, but in fact it is and you can see in the former dark room now!
