Small Tool Strife

Small Strife is a, 60 levels, riddle based game created by SmallTool for EG24. This is the real deal you've been practising for the last four days. No, fancy riddle stuff like exif, source, picture manipulation, url things etc. etc. Just your brain and basic riddle tricks. It will start easy (especially when you played the 4 prequels), but will slowly get harder. Anyway, have a lot of fun with it and help each other a lot in the comments but...

Note: Please do not post direct answers, start with hints and after that big hints or even very, very big hints!

    ReplyDelete
  3. say goodbye to your weekend...and the next one.....

    ReplyDelete
  4. S-T's idea of easy is way different from the rest of the world's :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. does the 2015 mean the year we finish?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm still wondering if I should even start this monster of a riddle, but thanks for the riddle anyway small-tool and Jon. :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. LOL @annaby if we are lucky!

    ReplyDelete
  8. wow, a new Kitchen Neat Escape, a Self Defiant, and this, too? I think I'd better start here...

    ReplyDelete
  9. For 1 question, I need about 1 hour * 60 = finish 27 Jan 2014. Nice

    ReplyDelete
  10. has anyone solved level 1 yet? 4 patterns, 4 methods. The first could be up?

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's without sleep, Zoran!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hi everyone :)

Thanks again to Small-Tool & Jon............ the torture has begun!

    ReplyDelete
  13. zoz - if you start here, you may NEVER get to those other games!

    ReplyDelete
  14. just translate to letters according to pattern

    ReplyDelete
  15. all I can say is HELP and Im only on level 1

    ReplyDelete
  16. For lvl 1, I did the obvious bits first.

    ReplyDelete
  17. lol @Zoe. Yes, I'm already stuck. Based on the prequels, I'm assuming the italian flags translate to Roman Numerals?

    ReplyDelete
  18. @mattat100 does that mean how? is the letter i?

    ReplyDelete
  19. ok can make some words if I use some of the numbers according to the colors but cant see where 2015 fits in

    ReplyDelete
  20. but what would O be in roman numerals?

    ReplyDelete
  21. @annaby we waiting for you

    ReplyDelete
  22. no how = how others mean different things

    ReplyDelete
  23. all i got is this:
    ?
    W VLC
    O MV MMXV
    H VLL

and thats to helping...or is it

    ReplyDelete
  24. switch roman numerals to letters, numbers to letters etc

    ReplyDelete
  25. First two levels are fairly easy if you did the prequels. For level 1, think about the common easiest ways to solve the puzzles in the prequels Level 2 is pretty straightforward.

    Suck on level 3 though...

    ReplyDelete
  26. not all the things in level 1 are roman numerals. Remember there are four methods.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Stuck on lvl 3 - I have no idea what I'm looking for

    ReplyDelete
  28. @CeeBee, I am stuck on lvl1 AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR :(

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks @annaby! I guess we all knew the answer to level 1 already.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @zoz, you are wrong. I don't know :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't understand about the "V" though....

    ReplyDelete
  32. for level 3, use logic to get them all to the other side, then look at your list

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Zoran: LOL!! Look at what Casual posted at 9:58 - what does the last line remind you of

    ReplyDelete
  34. Zoe the V had two colours/methods.
So First the top, that's Roman and Roman V is 5.
Then the bottom method (blue) numbers to letters.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Zoe - what does the roman numeral V stand for? Why might it have two patterns?

    ReplyDelete
  36. oh dear, trying to get some work done and I am falling behind on this riddle. Still no idea about level 1 :( guess I should have done more then 1/2 the first prequel and the 4th one.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi all!

    This should be interesting...

I've got level 1 and the answer doesn't fill me with too much hope for the rest of the riddle lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. Of course, now I can't get #2. Some people are already past it...I'v got 9 letters, but they don't make a word!

    ReplyDelete
  39. well, I got level 1 through a good guess. Hope I can understand how it was done at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Zoe, just pay attention to what grandma is saying...

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can't find anything that makes a word either for lvl 2

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh, I see..I was looking at it as a letter!

    ReplyDelete
  43. FINALY I am on lvl2. YUPIIIIIIIIII YE

    ReplyDelete
  44. oh dear. maybe I should just give up now. Have 9 letters but no word. :(

    ReplyDelete
  45. ok, i will have to get a me a coffee. i don't even get lvl 1. has the bottom line something to do with the devil?

    ReplyDelete
  46. well, I anagramed "the end" but got nothing...

    ReplyDelete
  47. oh duh duh duh ... finally got 2

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Zoe: "the end" are the important words ...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tips on level 3, I can solve the logic puzzle but don't see how that gives an answer

    ReplyDelete
  50. Level 3 - solve the puzzle initially, then you'll get the answer.

    ReplyDelete
  51. on level 3, i can get them all across, but I don't see a word?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Dr. Linus,
Don't forget about first things first and Granny.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Dr.Linus: Me too, I've been looking at my list but can't make any sense of it

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well done Cee Bee - I need help on level 4.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Got level 3. Granny means Ian or Nathan are interchangeable in the order.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I can't even get them all across!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Still stuck on level 2.

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Jo-Ann: the answer is 9 letters; there are 9 words.
What is grandmaa telling you to do?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Did I mention I hate "crossing the river" puzzles?

    ReplyDelete
  60. LOL - well, it's been an hour now, and it looks like we've only got to level 4. SO, that means this will take us AT LEAST 13 or 14 hours to solve!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Done level 4. Onto level 5.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ok - I've finally got them all across ...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well done Kernowman - I was just gonna post that I'm working on it LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I got them all across but I still have no idea what the answer is.

    ReplyDelete
  65. wow finally got level 1 after looking at it again, clever one small-tool

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have 9 letters but they don't make a word?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Help on level 3 please
I got them all across, and wrote down all the steps
but don't see how to get the answer

    ReplyDelete
  68. level 4: pay attention to the title, "Opposites of opposites", then consult granny

    ReplyDelete
  69. @Jo-Ann and Morgana, have you consulted with granny?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Good luck guys - I gottta go. Struggling to make sense of level 5. Done the obvious bit but the result makes no sense yet.

    ReplyDelete
  71. @Jo-Ann - did you look at "the end" and anagram?

    ReplyDelete
  72. morgana initially you should include simon more than once

    ReplyDelete
  73. yes, checked with 3 grannies. must have the wrong letters

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh man feeling stupid. missed a letter. got it now.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Had some ideas about level 5, none working. help?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Can you tell me how many letters i need on level 3?
    Yes, I've tried granma

    ReplyDelete
  77. Jo-Ann: It's not "first things first"

    ReplyDelete
  78. nvm, got it. But it was kind of a guess

    ReplyDelete
  79. Jo-Ann-don't feel bad - I wrote one of the letters down wrong!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. 8 letters for level 3, so we are looking for synonyms for level 4 I assume?

    ReplyDelete
  81. finally got 3 after continual misspelling :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. onto level 4 now. kind of guessed level 3 halfway through

    ReplyDelete
  83. On level 5, do we actually do the ladder for each picture? Somehow I think I'm looking at this wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  84. lvl:3: got them all to the other side, but i'm stuck anyways.

are the first 6 letters about people from a certain continent?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Zoz,
Pictures are only (kind of) telling you what it is and what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  86. @casual, not about a continent. More like a job they may have had to get them where they are

    ReplyDelete
  87. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  88. level 5 makes me look up random stuff on the internet

    ReplyDelete
  89. seems like the possibilities are endless in level 4.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Stuck o lvl 5 now, the ghost leg puzzle

    ReplyDelete
  91. google the last 2 pics and see how to do it then apply the first pic when completed the ladders

    ReplyDelete
  92. @s-t, who is the guy in the picture on lvl 5?

    ReplyDelete
  93. So @s-t, it's just telling me it's a Rotten G____ L__?

    ReplyDelete
  94. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  95. @small-tool, who is the guy in the picture on lvl 5?

    ReplyDelete
  96. thanks Jo-Ann. that means i'm way of track (asian...). i'm not quite sure how often i have to use simon in the solution.

    ReplyDelete
  97. for level 5, as you move through the puzzle, add or subtract for a new number

    ReplyDelete
  98. @Zoran, he's a member of the Sex Pistols

    ReplyDelete
  99. Zoran,
    The guy is Johnny ROTten.

    ReplyDelete
  100. thanks! finally made it to lvl 4.

btw: does anyone else have "error 503" problems on EG24?

    ReplyDelete
  101. 25 versions of rotting. Any clues?

    ReplyDelete
  102. suck on 4, do the words on the left correspond to the ones on the right or are the mixed up on the right?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yes, been receiving "error 503" for about 25 minutes Casual, I need another clue for level 4 please.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Stuck badly on lvl 5! and still 55 to go

    ReplyDelete
  105. 4 takes two translations, opposite, then the opposite again.

    ReplyDelete
  106. rot yes but after completing
level 4 read it ,it says find the opposite then find opposite of the new word

    ReplyDelete
  107. for level 4: if the opposite of "new" is "old", would the next opposite either "plo" or "dlo" (mirrored or backwards)?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Casual, not mirrored, but an opposite again

    ReplyDelete
  109. Casual, think Right - Left - Arrived...

    ReplyDelete
  110. @casual, think of just the word "old". What are some possibilities for the opposite? (Hint: it's something I'm not anymore)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Onto level 5!! Absolutely loving this game!! :D :D Thanks ST!

    ReplyDelete
  112. hmm, thought i found solution for lvl 4, but "warned" is wrong

    ReplyDelete
  113. POP! duh! thanks, got it now. onto lvl 5

    ReplyDelete
  114. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  115. @Casual: anagram that word you got. :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. @Casual, try using granny on that again

    ReplyDelete
  117. Level 5 is going to drive me to the kitchen for some ice cream. It probably won't help any, but I'll feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  118. stuck on lvl 5, S/T Help

    ReplyDelete
  119. 2 hours on lvl 5. Disaster

    ReplyDelete
  120. @zoz I feel better with sandwich in mu hands.

    ReplyDelete
  121. this will be a long night!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Zoran, walk the ghostleg like you should do and see how many steps to the left or right you went. And then, well, you know about rot, right?

    ReplyDelete
  123. 3 hours to do 5 levels if I ever finish level 5, this will be a good place to stop for today. 5 levels a day, projected finishing date is Feb 5th.

    ReplyDelete
  124. FINALLY!!!
    Thanks small tool!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. On level 5 i know wich kind of puzzle it is, i solve it and got a string of 6 letters, then i apply the cipher (for Jhonny Rotten) but get nothing from it..

    ReplyDelete
  126. Grego, S-T gave a huge hint.

    ReplyDelete
  127. O. M. G. I finally got level 5. I'm with c0ffe7; maybe I'll just take a week or two for this one.
    Thanks @small-tool and jon!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Go go go Zoz :)
    You will like/hate level 8 :P

    ReplyDelete
  129. I'm still stuck on 3. Got everybody across safely, but it took fewer than 8 steps and I don't know if I should be looking at first or last letter of their names or what...

    ReplyDelete
  130. Courtney, don't forget to include Simon in the crossings, starts with A

    ReplyDelete
  131. S/T, my hair is falling out on lvl 6. Clues??

    ReplyDelete
  132. @Zoran: How many symbols are and how many groups of chs below?

    ReplyDelete
  133. I literally have no idea. Stuck.

    ReplyDelete
  134. That tells you how many letters you're looking for. Do something with each symbol as directed to get each letter

    ReplyDelete
  135. Zoran, the instructions below tell you it's current position and then it's position in the answer, the directions tell you how much to rotate the letters

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'l just take a look at the beginning today, too tired
    small-tool and Jonthewatch thank you!
I just moved to hell ;)

    ReplyDelete
  137. even with the hint s-t gave I'm stuck on 5, the letters I get don't form an exisiting word. Where do I go wrong? Tried the steps along the way down and/or the end.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I got that long time ago but I keep getting a lot of cs and it doesnt make any sense

    ReplyDelete
  139. 6 looks pretty straight forward, but how much to turn? Is EE twice to the right???

    ReplyDelete
  140. Zoran,
The first one should give you an N and that would be letter 6 in your answer.

Ike the Q becomes an S
Use that method for the other letters, no anagram.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I think I understand the E and W on 6, but can anyone make sense of the N and S?

    ReplyDelete
  142. S/T I get W U E M O N T C. Not any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  143. where did that Q did all of sudden come from? am I missing something?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Zoran,
    W, U and T are wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Thats what I'm stuck with too Zoran!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thanks s-t but the letter r makes no sense to me. It's no "rotten"r , lol

    ReplyDelete
  147. @Zoran: you have 3 wrong - in each case they are upside down

    ReplyDelete
  148. My internet went down for a few hours...it's bad weather here so it may happen again. I'm still on level 4.

    ReplyDelete
  149. level 6 will give me the nightmares later!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Well, I got 7 with the help of the clues above, but I'm afraid that turning the letters didn't make any sense in most cases to me. Some of them seemed to just turn them back to where they started.
Ah well - on to 8.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Ike,
Not sure what R you mean.
I meant going down ghostleg from the Q you end up (at the bottom) two places more to the right, so that makes the Q+2 (in the alphabet) an S.
Do the same with the other letters.

    ReplyDelete
  152. S/T I am now EUPHORIC. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  153. Oops, I meant I got 6 - which I didn't understand. Went on to 7 which was easy, NOW on 8. Talk about confused!

    ReplyDelete
  154. Had 6 for a while, was misspelling when I was typing in the ans...

    ReplyDelete
  155. o dear, I was only adding, duh. Therefore the R made no sense. Thanks !

    ReplyDelete
  156. Is level 8 granny again?

    ReplyDelete
  157. I think for level 8 it's about differences between british and american english. for instance the 7th word (.....box)

    ReplyDelete
  158. Nope, no anagram needed in level 8

    ReplyDelete
  159. ....to destroy myself.

    ReplyDelete
  160. No need for granny on level 8

    ReplyDelete
  161. level 6 is kind of mean to non-english speakers... just a reminder for you, s-t

    ReplyDelete
  162. Lol, Zoz, and so is level 8 and 16 :P

    ReplyDelete
  163. I think by the time I get to level 60 I'll be 60!

    ReplyDelete
  164. Ah, minty! Now on to 9...

    ReplyDelete
  165. How many letters is the answer for 8?

    ReplyDelete
  166. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Never mind, got it! Have to run. Try 9 and on tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Oh my gosh finally an easy one for me! Got level 7 so fast! Yay me! Now I have to run and play later. I sure I will be stuck on 8 a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Mako, you should get it initially.

    ReplyDelete
  170. In level 8 you need to substitute US for us. There are nine of them.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Oh I just read 8 and I have an idea but no time! ACCKKK!

Thank you for the wonderful puzzle small-tool and Jon!

    ReplyDelete
  172. I'm already failing on 9. Are eye-charts any use?

    ReplyDelete
  173. @Luke 9 letters for lvl 8

    ReplyDelete
  174. @Clodagh: You don't need an eye-chart, just look for 'eyes'

    ReplyDelete
  175. Clodagh,
Don't overthink. No Google. You learned something on Prequel 4, level 2, right?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Aha, I was looking for u's :)

    ReplyDelete
  177. What ST - you expect me to remember exactly what that was now, after frazzling my brain here?

    ReplyDelete
  178. OOOH! Hi Me2, long time no see

    ReplyDelete
  179. Close to 200 comments ( thanks :) ).
