Small Tool Strife

Small Strife is a, 60 levels, riddle based game created by SmallTool for EG24. This is the real deal you've been practising for the last four days. No, fancy riddle stuff like exif, source, picture manipulation, url things etc. etc. Just your brain and basic riddle tricks. It will start easy (especially when you played the 4 prequels), but will slowly get harder. Anyway, have a lot of fun with it and help each other a lot in the comments but...

Note: Please do not post direct answers, start with hints and after that big hints or even very, very big hints!

  1. I think I see how the = and + are moving around the grid...if I'm not mistaken they wind up in the same spot.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Oops, nope Xaq they don't end at the same spot.
The patterns are not that hard to find (except for the O one), but the sequences are a bit harder, but they're all things/sequences often used in riddles.

    ReplyDelete
  3. You sure? I've got them going in 2 different directions in 2 different patterns, but the + and the = both wind up on the far right end of the center row no matter how many times I double-check.

Well, I'm fairly sure I've figured out the X and Triangle movements as well. Square and O are kinda stumping me, though...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Completely misunderstood your comment, Xaq.
Thought you said they end up at the same point as where they started, sorry :(
But yep you're perfectly right. You got it.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ah, okay. Good to know I'm on the right track, then.

So, 4 down, 2 to figure out...

    ReplyDelete
  6. Never mind on figuring on the last two. I just started guessing words I could make using the letters I had and completely BSed the answer on my 4th attempt!

    On to level 60!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Lol Congrats Xaq :)
    But....
Be happy now but not too happy. It (brutefrocing) will backfire. You'll see when you solved level 60 :)
I anticipated on that possibility because my beta-testers told me about that.

    ReplyDelete
  8. level 55 is where I have to quit for now. I simply don't see it. My brains are too tired after a week of riddle torture. I will try again tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  9. nice to see that there are still some people here - i thought everyone would be done and onto the bonus levels by now.

lvl58: found the first egg, still looking for second .. read all the hints above, not understanding

btw, is it wrong when it asked "who makes the rules, who can help you measure" that i tried "small-tool" as an answer? :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. @small-tool: btw, on lvl58, one of the degree marks is on the letter "S" instead of the number (line 9) - is it a typo or part of puzzle?

    ReplyDelete
  11. ok, found egg 2, makes more sense

    ReplyDelete
  12. I thought you said 60 was easier than 58 and 59, S-T...so how come I'm just as clueless now as I was with 58?

I will say, though, *very* cute with the pun the background of the image makes...that's not a clue by any chance, is it?

    ReplyDelete
  13. My head is spinning and my brain is mush, but finally finished! Thanks for a brilliant riddle and a week of fun (aka torture!) It can be done, so don't give up!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Xaq,
60 'is' way and way easier 'when' you ignore all the red herrings and things that are there to make you overthink :P

    ReplyDelete
  15. lvl58: ok, tried using the past hints, but im still not getting how the coords and dates lead to letters.

    ReplyDelete
  16. lvl 56..only two different sequences work with that right? cause the two i used ends up not making sense..or i cant figure the odd letter

    ReplyDelete
  17. @butterfly, its a Fibonacci sequence (add 2 numbers to make next in sequence)

then do math in next line and convert to letters - youll understand the odd one out at that point

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, I'm apparently not doing a very good job on that, S-T. I'm still overthinking and chasing fish all over the place. :[

First things first isn't helping, rotting the letters in the pic isn't helping, the pun in the background isn't helping, the hidden text in the pun REALLY isn't helping...

*stomach grumbles from lack of food*

    And that DEFINITELY isn't helping.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lol Xaq, with talking about "First things first isn't helping, rotting the letters" etc. You are defintely overthinking big time :P
    Just READ!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. xaq, all you need is in the text, read it very carefully

    ReplyDelete
  21. lvl58: read and re-read the previous hints, not understanding the comments about the 8 / 10 sizing.

as for the tool, does the tick sequence start over each time change, or at some point in the future does the grid become larger than the tool?

    ReplyDelete
  22. need help on level 40, can't figure out what top left symbol is

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've looked the text over, and the only thing that's caught my eye is 2 instances of a word appearing twice in a row (one of which isn't grammatically correct).

Definitely a good finish to the main part of the riddle, S-T...can't wait to get to the bonus round.

    ReplyDelete
  24. figured out the symbol, now I'm stuck on the first egg

    ReplyDelete
  25. @pinkgirl: as explained to me, check Red Luth's Riddle Tools for help - image the symbol as if youre arms were out to your sides, holding something

    ReplyDelete
  26. unknown, after subtracting one from all the numbers, i get nothing useful lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. @pinkgirl: go back to the image and look at the layout of the symbols - you should 'feel' excited at this point

    ReplyDelete
  28. Unknown,the coords you have must be scaled. for 5° S , 10° E in the present, 5°S x 8 =40/10 = 4°S;
10°E x 8=80/10= 8°E, so it becomes, 4°S, 8°E when scaled. Do the same math with the other years changing 8 as it expands or contracts

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pinkgirl, parts of the symbol are missing. Have you been on the Red Luth site? There is a code there that will match it if some other " parts" are added.

    ReplyDelete
  30. now I need help with the first egg on level 40

    ReplyDelete
  31. @butterfly, did you convert the numbers to something more 'readable' using simple tools?

@donas, i think im on the right track. used microsoft excel to draw a beautifully colored graph, but i was not scaling properly, mainly because im not fully understanding where the 8 and 10 came from. trying again - rereading the egg clues again.

    ReplyDelete
  32. pinkgirl, Unknown gave an excellent hint for getting the 2nd egg at 7:47

    ReplyDelete
  33. Unknown, the 8 comes from your tool in the 2nd egg, the 10 from the pic in the first egg

    ReplyDelete
  34. now stuck on second egg for level 40

    ReplyDelete
  35. @donas, ok now it makes more sense .. thank you

    ReplyDelete
  36. Still not seeing anything in the text aside from the 2 double-words I mentioned earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  37. xaq, you have the beginning of your answer, now what to add? How to finish?

    ReplyDelete
  38. @donas, calculated numbers as you explained, found 10 letters in the grid, granny doesnt like them.

going back to an earlier clue, 1014 was supposed to result in b,x which were not two of my letters.

either the grid still wrong, or my understanding of the pick.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Donas: You're saying that the "add to ______" part in the text is what the answer starts with?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Unknown, keep it simple with the new coords, °E +°N = letter,

    ReplyDelete
  41. xaq, no, the double you found starts it, now add ? ?

    ReplyDelete
  42. stuck on level 43, have seven words and g* w*****, but don't know what to do

    ReplyDelete
  43. Mmmmmm....nope, not seeing it.

Can someone maybe just tell me how many letters I'm looking for in the answer?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Unknown. East letters go ABC. West letters go ZXY as hinted in the egg. North and South do something similar.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @donas, getting the same list of numbers:

based on your comment, if i had a result of 5N 12E (not real calculation on my list) then my letter would be a Q?

    ReplyDelete
  46. @LinR, yeah i suspected that an hour ago, but im glad you clarified it. still trying ...

    ReplyDelete
  47. @pinkgirl, count the last column, noting where those letters are, and then pick new letters (simple tools)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Um, so, 59:

My eyes are crossed and I don't see a single thing, except for the answer to The Case of the Missing Letters.

I'll skip the nudge this time, and ask for a shove in the right direction.

    ReplyDelete
  49. xaq, the double you have and the add ?? part will give you 2 words then don't forget how to finish

Unknown, I think Lin's hint will help

    ReplyDelete
  50. The main reason I'm having trouble deciphering that clue is because I've got two doubles; one with a comma in the middle, one without.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Candi, try to follow the pattern each symbol makes as it moves from grid to grid, counting in several different ways may help you see familiar number patterns so you can see where the next one should go

    ReplyDelete
  52. xaq, the double you need has no comma

    ReplyDelete
  53. *steps back, reads things a little slower, blinks* ...Oh wow. It just hit me in the face like a brick.

    Thanks Donas. Lv 60 complete.

*cracks knuckles* Time for the bonus round.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well done xaq! Good luck all, late here, so off to bed

    ReplyDelete
  55. lvl58: im trying .. im really trying .. its supposed to be 10 letters, then show them to granny, right? am i missing something else?

    ReplyDelete
  56. ... ... ...Ah. So that's what S-T warned me about earlier. Guess I'm not getting away that easy after all. XP

    ReplyDelete
  57. Okay, wow. Compared to about 80% of the riddles up to this point, getting into the bonus levels was easy!

(Admittedly I used basically the same trick I used to beat Lv 59, so I guess S-T's warning was kinda moot!)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Unknown, Did you remember the ROTten clue? Use the N & S numbers for that and apply to your E & W numbers.
    I

    ReplyDelete
  59. And then, of course, the simpleness goes away. XP

I see the message in the grid, so I know where to start...rolling around on it as per the instructions can get me enough letters if I count stuff I roll over as well as where I stop, but nothing's making anything close to a word so far. Hrmm.

    ReplyDelete
  60. @LinR: with your clue i found my error .. was using the e/w numbers on the n/s numbers. :(

thank you (and everyone) for the hints

    now, on to 59

    ReplyDelete
  61. 59: I've gotten a couple of the (easy) shapes.

Is the trick really to write out the number sequence and figure out the pattern?

If so.... this might not be pretty....

In any case, I'm going to take my mushy mind to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Candi: 4 of them are fairly easy to figure out. The Circle and the Square stumped me, though, forcing me to just bash my way through with what I had.

Anyway, think I'm gonna call it a night. Got some stuff to do tomorrow (mostly involving pigeons and laundry...don't ask), so I may be back at this sometime in the afternoon my time. Maybe something'll click with me by then.

    ReplyDelete
  63. lvl 59:
I think I found the + = square and circle ones. + and = give the same result as xaq got, so they are confirmed. square and circle were quite straight forward too unless I got a wrong pattern by luck. Between the square and circle results I got a difference of 1 row and 1 column.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lvl 55, reading all the hints given I'm not sure got the right words (22) After picking come up with words like a...., r....., d...., g..... etc. but that seems to be wrong. What am I doing wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  65. not sure what your words are but twentytwo should tell you what your looking for and when picking it is no anagram

    ReplyDelete
  66. Level 58..........................
Should i really try this one?
I got two pages of hints but my mood thermometer has reached the level of frustration already. Maybe i should do the Robamimi game first to get into a better mood.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Dutchie, for you 3 more to go, so : "houd er de moed maar in "

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks ike, for your encouraging words but "de moed is me reeds in de schoenen gezonken". As small-tool said somewhere, 58 en 59 are the most difficult levels. I will probably need another week to solve them.
So first things first ..........On to the Robamimi;)

    ReplyDelete
  69. dutchie, go ahead with no fear :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I want to sit and riddle, but I'm going to be gone most of the day.

Sadly, the breadcrumbs on 59 aren't enough :/

I know I have =, I have a hunch for square, but the others are just flat eluding me. (Especially rough when I hear that they're quite easy and straightforward.)

    I will not be beaten!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ok, that was a five star for Robamimi. Now back to this hell as
    level 1 indicated.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thanks PinHead, i will give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Candi, the squares (1-25) can be numbered in several ways. Think left/right up/down.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Level 58: Missing 2 but probably 3 (present?) dates. I have no idea where/what to look for.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The coordinates without a reference to people/events."......in the present for a while and just traveled there to 5° S , 10° E and 7,5 S° , 2,5° W." and "........being erased from reality and time at 3,75° N , 2,1875° E". Does Einstein count ?

    ReplyDelete
  76. dutchie, in which era are we now? ;)
As for 3,75° N , 2,1875° E, you should google that exact phrase with quotes. It is related to fiction with an exact year.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I understand your first hint (how stupid of me) But does 3,75° N , 2,1875° E also has to do with Germanicus? That last part of the sentence i can't find. Google sends me to all kinds of places but nothing seems to fit: Dr. Who; a novel by I.A.; Forgetting pills etc.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Level 59 and I'm going around in circles and squares and zig zags and I'm still not finding the patterns or the sequences. I have the X and the triangle but that's it. Can anybody send me in the right direction.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I need help in 41
I have a few sentences, but I do not understand how to get the answer, and I've done all roads

    ReplyDelete
  80. LinR, I wish i could help you but i'm stuck on 58.
I hope someone can help you but it seems that there are just a few people left.
Hope you make it to the finish.

    ReplyDelete
  81. dutchie, google "leaving the remains of humanity to cower away in the fear of being erased from reality and time". You will find in the related site 2 locations.
    Germanicus is related to 5° N , 5° E
You should in fact have 10 locations, and hence 10 dates (years), and more specifically 5 pairs of years.
Moreover, all year numbers share some digit(s).

    ReplyDelete
  82. LinR, I have probably all but the triangle and square. Could you shed some light pls?
As for the others, did you assign all 25 squares numbers?

    ReplyDelete
  83. pichi, did you find the main path from start to end? It is an instruction that you have to apply to itself.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm not sure, but anyway I do not understand

    ReplyDelete
  85. PinHead, thank you for the hint. As for the triangle, it will certainly put you on Edge and keep you going around in circles, :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. pichi, were you able to traverse the maze from start to finish?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yes, and got several phrases

    ReplyDelete
  88. For the square on level 59.
    Do you remember level 18?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thank you again, PinHead
I've finally found it. I had not marked the 'word for word' option in Google. Lesson learned.
Tomorrow I'll continue puzzling about the next steps.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lvl 43
must have count in the last column, but the letters I have are not correct, I don't quite understand that count. I've got 7 words. Anagram also nothing. I saw that the last letters of the words are the same that are in the maze

    ReplyDelete
  91. level 50 I have overlayed the shapes on the grids the first three lines start to spell out a question (thats if I did it right). The last two lines do spell something (2 words) but I am having problems getting the answer when I google those two words. Have I gone wrong somewhere or missed something out.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Finished lvl 60. Onto the bonus rounds!
But I don't understand the clue for the X symbol (level 59). 12 letters are needed, 6 of which are the answer to lvl 59. Do I understand correctly that the X symbol alone yields 7 letters (mmsily*)?

I am not sure what is meant by method name. I have keywords for some symbols. Is that it?

    ReplyDelete
  93. juliet, it is a question (in the form of an order) with the last word consisting of 7 letters (French name).

    ReplyDelete
  94. Pinhead,
For the X symbol, if you add all the steps you get a number. That number to alphabet, so only one letter fromt that.
And yep the keywords (for most of them) are the names of the sequences you used.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Well, I'm still getting nowhere on Bonus 1. It say I'm supposed to wind up with 12 letters, but I'm only making 5 moves (6 if you count where I start).

Do I count letters I roll over as I move? Or am I just looking at this completely wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Xaq,
Where you start counts as letter too (or in fact, that's two letters, don't forget about the die itself ! ! ).

    ReplyDelete
  97. lvl59: we dealt with patterns for square and = in earlier puzzles. i dont understand pattern for +, even though i know where it ends. as for the others (triangle, x , o), i dont see patterns yet .. still trying though (x seems to swirl, but not certain where next point would land sequence-wise).

    any other nudges or hints?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Unknown: You're on the right track with X. There's a very simple pattern to how the number of spaces it moves each step increases.

As for Triangle, it's doing something similar to X in terms of directionality. The pattern to how the number of spaces it moves increases isn't as simple, but it's still a very simple one.

    ReplyDelete
  99. AHA! Got it!

Bonus 1 down, bring on Bonus 2!

*sees it* ... ... ...oh crap.

    ReplyDelete
  100. @xaq: think X is done. still not sure about triangle .. still trying though ..

maybe another break will help ..

    ReplyDelete
  101. Well Done Xaq. I wish I could get past 59! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Okay, I think I see how to go about the thing in the image on Bonus 2...looks like I'm going to be making at least 12 letters, and I think I can rule a fair chunk of the alphabet out given the looks of things.

Doesn't appear to be anything in the text to help...or am I just missing something right under my nose here?

    ReplyDelete
  103. *digs quietly in xaq's recycle bin, looking for discarded notes*

    ReplyDelete
  104. Unknown: Were you ever a Transformers fan? I ask because Optimus might be able to help with Triangle's sequence here.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Xaq,
There is something in the text for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  106. @xaq: you know, i had used that sequence but messed up the 4th digit. i knew there had to be more than meets the eye. :D

    thanks!

are we keeping track of the locations where the symbols land on the last grid, or the letter it lands on?

    ReplyDelete
  107. You'll be needing the letter it lands on in the final grid...speaking of which, you have figured out what letters are IN the final grid, right?

(If so, don't bother with the rest of this post. If not, read what's in it right now, then take a look at what's in...or rather, NOT in...each of the preceding grids. That should give you a hint.)

    ReplyDelete
  108. @xaq: found that last night before i logged out. repeats over and over, does it not?

    ReplyDelete
  109. ok, im back to tackle lvl 56 again. i know the sequence, subtracted one from each, and converted using a1 b2 but....nope, still in quicksand

    ReplyDelete
  110. Y'know, the more I look at this, the more I begin to wonder if I'm supposed to be making letters after all..

Nothing in the text is standing out to me, though...this one's definitely a riddle worthy of finishing all this up. *scratches head*

    ReplyDelete
  111. @butterfly, think back to the CCCVVVCCCVVV puzzle .. most of your answer should look like one or the other .. pick out the one that doesnt belong, add the one that does like the clue says . then say it out loud .. keep 'looking'

    ReplyDelete
  112. Xaq,
You are making letters (no anagram, although in the end you have to add a dot in front of the last 3 letters)
The bottom part of the text is not between " and " just for fun.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Back, and finally got 59. (I *really* tried to get the o honestly, but I just don't see it. I had to bf, and I feel a little bad :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Don't feel bad Candi, you're doing great.
The O one was very tricky. Completely different than the other 5.
Every second step was not doing a step, but doing something else.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I may have to rethink my "omit some parts of the alphabet" notion from earlier...I'm starting to think the answer can be made with mixed case, because I inadvertently formed the word "step" that way.

Am I on the right track with that, S-T?

    ReplyDelete
  116. O_O!!!!!!!

Did I just hit an easter egg or did I just win!? (I stumbled across something that led me to a picture.)

    ReplyDelete
  117. Go, go, go Xaq
    Really almost there now.
That pic is the very last part. When you see what it is (no anagram) go back to the answer box thing and put it there and you're done :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Okay, bad news, that was an easter egg...

    Good news?

    VICTORYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Yay, Congrats Xaq, you did it, Kudos :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Congratulations Xaq. Truly Well Done!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. *physically feels his brain crash as it goes from running full throttle to suddenly having absolutely jack to do*

Hoo...that was intense, S-T. Nicely done on all of those.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Xaq. Don't come to a full stop. You should try Small Tool's "A Love Story" riddle here on EG24.

    ReplyDelete
  123. *returns with food, checks to see if anyone needs any help, sees that comment*

*drops food* I...don't know if I have it in me for another riddle after this one.

    ...

    But what the heck.

    ReplyDelete
  124. That was... well, I can't say I ran across the finish line, but I did crawl like a boss :)

@s-t: That was the most *insert strong positive and negative adjectives here* puzzle I have ever endured. You, sir, are a Master Riddler and I can only hope to face your work again :-D

    ReplyDelete
  125. I don't know why I get stuck at the simplest of things. What is that special method (Einstein??) for circle that we did not use for the other 5? Is the required 12 letter answer 1 word?

btw, the circle goes down every other step. What is the other step?

    ReplyDelete
  126. @pinhead, 12 letter answer?

    ReplyDelete
  127. lvl59: i come back and look at all the work i put in to this level, only to have the answer staring at me.

    *sigh*

    on to lvl60

    ReplyDelete
  128. Unknown, level 60 is very simple if you ignore all the red herrings and read the few related comments above.
Once you get done with this level, you'll understand what I meant by the 12 letter answer, and maybe you can help as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  129. @pinhead, when i re-read the comments, i realized you were past 59, but for some reason i thought your comment was about 59, and i panicked. I was ready to throw all my work away. :D

saw the comments to read level 60, and ignore red herrings. small-tool's comment has me a little confused.
diving head first into the puzzle ...

    ReplyDelete
  130. unknown, there are more important comments further down, especially Donas'.

    ReplyDelete
  131. @pinhead: thank you.

knew what to look for, it just wasnt making any since until the last step.

    next stop: bonus1

    ReplyDelete
  132. Chapeau to the ones who have made it. I doubt it that i will ever get there.
Wish i could travel back in time and sneaky watch how smalltool makes level 58.
Off to the zoo now, maybe i get some inspiration there.

    ReplyDelete
  133. unknown, you are at the congratulations level, and this is where I am stuck. My additional 6 letters include 3 vowels. Maybe you can double check.

    ReplyDelete
  134. dutchie, if you need help just ask.

    ReplyDelete
  135. @pinhead, i dont have the proper words for + and O, but there are 3v and 1c in the rest of my 6 letters, so i am at loss at the moment. hope this helps you a little.

    ReplyDelete
  136. unknown, for square, =, triangle and X I have respectively vccv. What about you?

    ReplyDelete
  137. @pinhead yes, and those 4 look "well" to me if i translated the clues properly

  138. unknown, but you said you had 3v and 1c for these.
    For +, square, =, triangle, O and X I have respectively vvcccv.

    ReplyDelete
  139. @pinhead, that was my fault .. its late and my eyes are tired ..
    sorry

    ReplyDelete
  140. unknown, do you have the 6 c/v sequence as i listed above (in order)?

    ReplyDelete
  141. @pinhead, if i line up my symbols like yours, i have the same pattern for the sq, =, tr, and x as you do, so i think youre good on those. hoping that if you translate above as i mentioned, you can see the 4 letters that go with these symbols.

  143. unknown, oh...mine (sq, =, tr, and x) are not 'well' at all.

    ReplyDelete
  144. unknown, my guess for + is not even, and circle is relative ;)

    ReplyDelete
  145. @pinhead, xaq's 5:13pm clue helped me with triangle. didnt seem relative to me.

    ReplyDelete
  146. @pinhead, oops .. guess you caught your typo

    ReplyDelete
  147. unknown, 5:13pm is your post and not xaq. Which post exactly?
Furthermore, I corrected my post above.

    ReplyDelete
  148. unknown, ok I found xaq's 5:13pm post, and that's correct.

    ReplyDelete
  149. 'uneven sweets breed transformers relatively, you' understand?

    ReplyDelete
  150. @pinhead, i understand all but breed .. thought it was F******** pattern

    ReplyDelete
  151. cant get + to show uneven .. retrying ..

    ReplyDelete
  152. unkown, F******** is related somehow to breeding.
    + is very odd.
So do we have 5 matches (except for +)?

    ReplyDelete
  153. then it looks like 5 matches :)
still not seeing any words out of the letters though

    ReplyDelete
  154. unknown, for + imagine the grid cells being numbered from 1-25, with the top left being 1, and going down increases by 1. The top cell of the 2nd column would be 6.

    ReplyDelete
  155. @pinhead, ok that makes sense for +.
    thank you

    ReplyDelete
  156. unknown, but the 12 letter answer still eludes me!

    ReplyDelete
  157. for X (the you step) - isnt it the same as the total of grids?

    ReplyDelete
  158. unkown, for X add the number of steps that the X travelled in the 6 moves (7 grids). YOU must translate that number to am alphabet letter.

    ReplyDelete
  159. i can think anymore .. brain went to sleep an hour ago .. now the eyes want sleep .. good luck pinhead and thank you for the added help

  160. When I read the comments here I guess I should leave it to what I've solved so far. Congratulations to the "finishers" and also to the creators of this enigma.

  163. @Candi, which granny do you use?
Are we looking for a single 12 letter word?

    ReplyDelete
  164. Pinhead,
    Use this one: http://anagram-solver.net/

And yep a 12 letter word (starting with i)

  166. @ST, I tried 3 grannies and they could not turn up this word. Only yours did! I had the correct letters all the time!
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  167. @PinHead: I use anagram-solver.net. And, yes, it's a single 12 letter word.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Bonus 1: I don't get from where the 12 letters come. 6 die rolls give 7 letters if we include the starting point.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Level 58
I have the 5 years but no clue what to do next. They have something in common, right? I saw the clue about the 2nd paragraph. Tried several things but got nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  170. dutchie, did you get the 2 egg levels?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Pinhead,
The die already starts at a letter.
And it only rolls 5 times.
    So that's 6 letters.
But the die gives you 6 other letters as well ! (not that high in the alphabet).

    ReplyDelete
  172. No i just found the years, don't know what to do next

    ReplyDelete
  173. dutchie, a map needs what to read it? certainly not a myth, right?

    ReplyDelete
  174. Dutchie,
Look for a synonym for a word in the 2nd paragraph that would go better with the words behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  175. @ST, I have already got the 6 die letters (your hint to xaq)
Shortest roll is 1 and hence the die value is used for 'news' (your hint to mtatt). As much as I tried, granny revealed nothing.
I have 2 sets (options) of 6 board letters that have 3c/3v (ends with R) and 4c/2v (ends with T).

    ReplyDelete
  176. Pinhead,
You should have only one vowel from the board letters.
It's probably easier to take a die in real life and turn it to see what the shortest way is to get a certain number on top.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Thank you Donas and small-tool. Found an egg.
I was looking for a ten letter word, saw the answer ages ago (dumb dumber dumbest).

    ReplyDelete
  178. @ST, Got it!

    Onto bonus 2 :)

    ReplyDelete
  179. @pinhead, were the letters we worked on earlier the correct letters for the congrats page? i still cant get granny to make a 12 letter word, and ive been using the same link as s-t said

    ReplyDelete
  180. i was still off on the method for O .. cant wait for the walkthrough so i can see why that letter is the way it is

    on to next part ...

    ReplyDelete
  181. unknown, I had them all right. The anagram solver(s) were not up to par in this case. To check again, remove the square and get a 'bonus' ;)
O's keyword is related to a special method (einsten's relativity) R+1=S

    ReplyDelete
  182. @pinhead, thank you.

after seeing the "bonus", then granny was fine, but the "bonus" explained why my letters were not "well" earlier

its all about that O .. i dont like the O anymore .. i ban it from all future riddles !!!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Way behind on lvl 31. I've read the hints and understand where to look, but I cannot figure what to look at to get the M**** C***. The letters, such as i and l, the punctuation, or what? I've been trying all kinds of things to get the right pieces of the code. Please help!

    ReplyDelete
  184. holly, look at the length of the words

    ReplyDelete
  185. @holly, ignore the paragraph and focus on the larger words at the top

    ReplyDelete
  186. Thanks, Donas, I thought I tried that but guess not!

    ReplyDelete
  187. Bonus2: I am trying to get something, but it looks as if what is labelled right is actually to the left of a person facing the lock. Is that so?

    ReplyDelete
  188. Yeah, reached level 59.

    ReplyDelete
  189. @pinhead: does it help to have actual dice to tumble around for bonus 1 riddle?

    ReplyDelete
  190. Pinhead, not sure I understand your question, but I think the side labeled left was to the left of the front side.

    Yay dutchie!!

  192. @unknown, definitely!

@Donas, to write 5, we need 2 consecutive blanks in the top ring, that is unless I misunderstood the text.

    ReplyDelete
  193. Pinhead,
Cut the pic in pieces and make a 16 piece string of every ring.
Then move them with the hint in the text.
But it's a circle so a piece that steps out on the right comes back in on the left.

    ReplyDelete
  194. @ST, I did what you described on the PC instead of fiddling with paper. But will the order of the strips be like
    FRONT RIGHT BACK LEFT
    or
    LEFT BACK RIGHT FRONT?

    ReplyDelete
  195. LinR, you owe me for a bottle of aspirin. I'm trying the Love Story riddle like you suggested, and lv 22 on it is making me want to tear my hair out...more so in that, unlike this one, it's not live anymore so getting any help for it isn't an option for me. :[

@PinHead: They go in order from top to bottom as shown; take the 2nd one and put it to the right of the 1st, the 3rd to the right of the 2nd, and the 4th to the right of the 3rd with its right side connecting to the 1st.

If nothing else, you can see a smidge of the next section on the far ends of each one; that can help you line it up properly.
