I got the math solution a² + b² - 10, but wondered, how did the game designers interprete that, because I have some weird experiences already. And voilà! You guys just LOVE brackets!

All these brackets are completely redundant, the right line would be like that:
a² - 5 + b² - 5
And, of course, -5 - 5 = -10, so the easiest way to write this is like that:
a² + b² - 10
